Nothing will change until disaster strikes

''Disgruntled Wordsworth Resident'' writes by email:

As a home-owner staying in Wordsworth Road, I can only applaud and agree with Dalene Burns’s letter.

Great was my surprise last week when there were actually Metro Police fining motorist driving down the one-way.

My happiness was, however, short-lived, as the following day we were back to “ducking and diving” to get to Main Road.

Not only do we have to endure the one-way offenders but also the “race car drivers”, who seem to think that racing down Wordsworth Road is totally permitted.

And, if you dare to slow down and indicate that you are turning into your driveway, you have to pray the driver speeding behind you actually sees that you are slowing down or, in some instances, you have to stop to allow for traffic to pass.

We need bigger and more speed-bumps in Wordsworth Road and we need the school to participate in educating not just the learners, but also their parents, on road use and the meaning of traffic signs.

But the offenders are not just the parents of the school, they are, unfortunately, also Farrarmere residents, so the moral of the story is that everybody using Wordsworth Road should abide by the traffic rules.

My personal opinion is that nothing will change until disaster strikes.
