Blessings in the form of rain

In the late afternoon of this past Saturday, I was in my bedroom with all of the things that I still needed to do running through my mind like a vintage movie projector.

Not having a chance to see the weather predictions, I was taken by surprise when I heard a light drizzle starting outside.

My thoughts instantly settled down and a peaceful and cosy feeling crept through me and I decided to get into my slippers and cuddle up, watching the first rainfall of the season.

I was thinking about our dry garden and how joyous it will look some weeks into the rainy season.

It had me thinking how magnificent rain is and how lucky we are as a country to receive it:

We might have postal strikes, increasing crime statistics, procrastinating municipal services, e-tolls taking our extra buck, etcetera, etcetera, but no one can take away our rain.

At least our crops can grow to produce food, our beautiful landscapes can be nourished, we can enjoy the fresh air that follows and, God forbid, if the water shortage continues we can at least gather buckets of rain to purify and use.

We can also appreciate my favourite part; its soothing sound and cosy atmosphere while everything is washed clean.

And the best of all, afterwards, we get the view of a colourful rainbow in the sunlight over a green South Africa.

I am thoroughly reminded that there will always be some blessings bigger than man, which we cannot be stripped of.

We have much to be grateful for, keep being positive about and keep our hopes up.

Sometimes we just need to slow down and listen to the rain.TB
