Okay if I breathe?

Having my own religion, I have encountered the famous “Yeah, some Christian” or “And you call yourself a Christian?” several times when I have a glass of wine, laugh at what some might consider an inappropriate joke, or slip out some judgement on another person.

Sometimes I feel like I should ask for permission to breathe.

With this, I would like to address a sensitive topic: people’s views on others based on their religions, referring to no one in particular as it is a common occurrence with all religions:

People often are quick to judge and there are many stereotypes.

Thinking about this had me wondering to what extent our human relationships and interaction with one another would be affected if we just started seeing humans as humans.

No human is flawless, people sin and make mistakes and people do have personalities of their own; so let them be.

The way I see it people should be taught right from wrong in their childhood years and be judged on their behaviour thereafter.

Naturally the religions we follow have some affect on our behaviour, but it doesn’t make us who we are.

When someone does wrong, regardless of the influence their religion has on them, it was their decision to do so, each person is their own person who has a free will and will face the consequences themselves – not their religion.

I too am guilty of this and often end up being completely surprised.

So herewith I challenge you to get to know someone, and at least have a chance to prove your suspicions wrong, before passing judgement on them.

You do not have to agree with each other’s religious views, but you do have to respect them.

Let us try not to see religions when we meet, interact and do business, let us try to see people.TB
