Pretoria Road serves Benoni as one of the main commercial trunks and carries very important traffic in great volumes daily.
However, the road construction, through Fairleads, has failed and with the first heavy rains in the wet season the surface will give way entirely.
There is also severe damage on the road through Rynfield that will suffer the same fate in wet weather.
Years ago, Pretoria Road was due to be upgraded to a four lane dual carriage way.
This can be seen in the road construction passing Northmead Mall and on the far side at the intersection in Bapsfontein, with the Delmas Road.
If this road is not upgraded very soon one of the very few main arteries into Benoni will become unusable.
This will be a major disruption to traffic from the north / north-east of Benoni.
For the good of the commerce of our town, the Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality needs to pull themselves together and realise that this is a serious threat that needs very urgent resolution.
