What do you do about a problem like this?

"Desperate and Frustrated Too", writes by email:

The article about the Northmead man who was convicted for killing his neighbours’ dog left me rather disturbed.

What was the man supposed to do?

According to your article the man did approach his neighbour in a proper manner to please address the issue. The neighbour did nothing.

The issue became too much for the man and on a bad day (we all have those) the man killed the dog.

To those who prosecuted and passed the judgement: what would you have done?

What could have been done to prevent this?

I live in Northmead, too.

My neighbour has five small little dogs and, when he or his family members arrive, the dogs go berserk, like an unearthly noise for about five minutes.

The dogs often yelp and bark throughout the night, and nobody next door seems to be bothered.

At some point soon, I am going to have to approach them and then in all probability start a never-ending neighbourly war.

My beloved wife has been attacked for the second time round with life-threatening breast cancer that has spread to bone cancer.

She is currently undergoing serious chemotherapy that leaves her very ill and miserable for most part of the day, and, at night, we try to manage her pain levels so that she can get some rest.

So all this has all the ingredients of another tragedy, don’t you think?

To tell me about all the bylaws of animals and disturbance helps me nothing.

How do you enforce those bylaws? At gunpoint?

I have two Rottweilers, too, but when they bark, or do what big dogs do, one of my family or I get up to investigate and quieten them down. That’s what one is supposed, to do, right?
