Town Hall in a shocking state

Sylvia Knoop, Club President 2013/2014, Benoni Aurora Rotary Club writes by email:

Having recently been to a Startime Players play in the Small Benoni Town Hall, I was appalled at the lack of maintenance of the once stately Benoni Town Hall.

The paint was peeling off the ceilings in huge sheets, tiles were broken, and I don’t think the floor has seen a coat of varnish since 1994.

What has now prompted me to write this letter, is the front page of the Benoni City Times of Thursday, July 18, where the town council is going to increase the rate of hiring the hall by 400 per cent.

Kindly tell me how they can justify such an increase when they can’t even spell the word “maintenance”.

I am absolutely appalled, and would really like to know what the community is going to get in exchange for such high rentals.

What have they been doing with the money in the past when absolutely no maintenance has been done?

With such increases, I doubt whether any organisation will even consider hiring the Benoni Town Hall in future.
