LETTER: Thank you, you were a lifeline

Mohau Pheko from Westdene writes:

There are not many people who show compassion these days.

My daughter survived a hijacking after celebrating her 19th birthday in Sandton with friends. At about 18:25, she sent a distress call saying that a black Volkswagen Caravelle was following her from the University of the Witwatersrand where she had dropped off a friend.

They forced her into a cul-de-sac. The occupants slammed on her windows demanding she opens the door. She had the presence of mind to quickly drive to her friend’s school at St Benedict’s to escape through their security gate.

She was so shaken, confused and terrified to leave the premises. I was more concerned about her safety. I called CMS at about 18:36, desperate to get her home safely. Initially, the call centre said they could not help me.

I was calling an Uber to fetch her when Donovan de Vries called me from CMS. He was calm, even though I was out of my mind shouting in panic. He said they will help.

This was the best lifeline I could have had. He calmly requested the details of where my daughter was and said he is sending someone to escort her home.

Thank you Donovan for going beyond the call of duty. May God bless him for saving my daughter’s life.

When my daughter left the premises with the CMS, her friend at the school saw the hijackers speed away in the opposite direction.

I cannot express my relief when she arrived home safely. I praise and thank God. May he bless Donovan and his family beyond measure.

You represent the best of what we desire in security companies.
