Body of man recovered from dam

An inquest docket has been opened at Putfontein SAPS.

Police divers recently retrieved the body of a man, believed to in his early 50s, from a dam near Mayfield Ext 5, Daveyton.

According to Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Raider Ubisi, the police were called to a scene where a body of an unknown man was found floating in the dam.

“The deceased was found wearing only blue short trousers and had no visible injuries on his body. A black T-shirt and a pair of black shoes was found not far from the dam.”

The police suspect that he might have gone to the dam to perform a ritual.

An inquest docket has been opened at Putfontein SAPS. The police are appealing to anyone who might have a family member or relative that’s missing to contact Crimestop on 08600 10111.

In a separate incident, a man was found dead recently inside a car in Mayfield.

He was allegedly assaulted by community members and succumbed to his injuries.

“It is not clear what he was doing inside the vehicle but when he realised that he had been seen, he tried to flee the scene but was caught.”

A case of murder has been opened at Putfontein SAPS.

Putfontein SAPS station commander Lietenant Colonel Wellington Mathiane has strongly condemned the incident. He urges members of the community not to take the law into their hands.
