Dancing queen wins big

Sanchia Lamprecht, the granddaughter of local resident Elmari Lamprecht, made SA proud.

Gold Reef Retirement Village resident Elmari Lamprecht (73) was proud of her granddaughter, Sanchia Lamprecht (18), who recently won the world championships for dance.

The Adult Premier Championship in Blackpool, England, on June 24 and 25, saw Sanchia win the freestyle and slow dance categories, making her a dual champion.

Sanchia started her dance journey aged two, winning her first South African Dance Teachers Association (SADTA) Jelly Tots medal test with Dynamic Dance Studio in Benoni, owned by her mother, Linda Dedekind.

With many trainers assisting her, she moved through various levels in SADTA and South African Body of Dance competitions, competing in freestyle, slow dance and disco.

Esteemed dance teachers David Jones and Steven Noall took Sanchia under their wings, preparing her for global premier-level championships.

Last year, Sanchia placed first in the Youth Premier slow dance championship, third in the freestyle championship, and fifth in the International Dance Organisation (IDO) Adult Disco World Championships in Katrineholm, Sweden.

She also became an SA title winner in freestyle, slow dance and disco.

“South Africa cheered and celebrated her achievement while playing the national anthem. What an amazing moment for the entire SA team,” said her mother.

Sanchia’s motto in life is, “Never give up. Try and work harder until failure is no longer an option.”
