Special treat for St Francis residents

The 40 senior citizen members of The Luncheon Club Project from Pauline Davis Court and Deneys Conradie Residentia in Benoni.

The Methodist Homes Fairleads Retirement Village Luncheon Club Project recently opened their hearts to the St Francis Care Centre as part of a community outreach initiative.

The 40 senior citizen members of The Luncheon Club Project from Pauline Davis Court and Deneys Conradie Residentia in Benoni started a knitting club at the beginning of the year, knitting and crocheting a total of 35 blankets for all the children at St Francis.

Apart from the blankets, members of club also donated knitted beanies, face cloths, toys, books, party packs and a lovely warm meal was shared with the entire home.

They further donated additional clothing and essentials for the organisation’s charity shop.
Kelly Maphuma, the outreach and luncheon club project coordinator from Fairleads Retirement Village, said it brings them joy to know that their presence makes a difference.

“There is always something to give back and anything you give with a pure heart and a joyful smile on your face is often easily received with wide open arms. The members of this club strongly believe that a community that builds each other will always stay in harmony despite the age gap. It truly takes a village. Thank you to everyone who turned this day into an impactful memory for all.”

St Francis manager Tilly Brouwer expressed her gratitude for the heartfelt gesture.

“This donation is special because it came from senior citizens. It warms our hearts that senior citizens still want to give back to the community.”
