High schools’ tennis league ends successfully

“Congratulations to all the schools that participated. It was a great success.”

Hoërskool Marais Viljoen and Hoër Volkskool Heidelberg took the top prize after winning the boys’ and girls’ A League titles during the Gauteng East Tennis Association (GETA) high schools’ league finals this month at the GETA complex in Lakefield.

Marais Viljoen beat Hoërskool Kempton Park to win the boys’ title, while Volkskool Heidelberg defeated St Dominic’s School for Girls to take the girls’ title.

Volkskool Heidelberg was the most dominant, winning the boys’ B, C and D divisions, while the school’s girls’ C side clinched that division’s title.

Hoër Volkskool Heidelberg girls’ A team won the A league.

Marais Viljoen’s second girls’ team won the girls’ B league after beating St Dominic’s B team in the final.

GETA’s juniors tennis chairperson Karen McRae thanked the schools for their entertainment during the season.

“After many closely contested matches and some great tennis, Hoër Volkskool Heidelberg came out on top in most of the leagues, and Marias Viljoen, too.

“Congratulations to all the schools that participated. It was a great success,” said McRae.
