Woman gives back on Women’s Day

Gugu Shoko donated 50 sanitary pads to young girls and 15 blankets to senior citizens in Daveyton.

In celebration of National Women’s Day on August 9, a young woman from Daveyton, Gugu Shoko, reached out to the elderly and young women in Daveyton.

She donated 50 sanitary pads to young girls and 15 blankets to elderly women in Mayfield through her NPO, Batho Bohle.

Shoko said she wanted to make National Women’s Day special for women from the underprivileged community.

“Seeing that it is cold, I decided to donate blankets to elderly citizens so they could get through the winter. Elderly women have many burdens, so I wanted to appreciate them by giving them a day off from all their struggles at home. They are here today to relax and get spoiled.

Already cosy under her new blanket was Gogo Matshidi Sebeso.

“Helping one person in the community is better than helping no one at all. I do not have much, but the little I get, I give back to the community,” said Shoko.

With help from her team, Shoko pampered the elderly women with hand and leg massages.

The 32-year-old thanked everyone who donated blankets and sanitary pads.
