Benoni to host Nordic Walk

Those interested in participating can WhatsApp De Waal 082 579 1631.

The Korsmans Bird Sanctuary will host the first-ever Nordic Walk in Gauteng on August 19 at 10:00.

Nordic walking is a summer training sport for cross-country skiers and it is one of the most effective cross-training techniques for athletes and sportspeople.

“I am passionate about this new sport in South Africa. I really want to grow it and introduce it to people of all ages and fitness levels,” said organiser Lohra de Waal.

De Waal pleads with the community to come out in their numbers and support the event, saying it is a family affair open to people from ages five to 90.

She added that participants will need walking poles.

“I will rent mine for R100 per set, to those who don’t have.”

According to De Waal, the poles are aimed to support the elevation and decline involved with rough terrain and enhance the ultimate cardiovascular endurance conditioning.

De Waal will show all participants the correct cross-country skiing technique prior to the event.

Those interested in participating can WhatsApp De Waal on 082 579 1631.
