Case against alleged serial rapist postponed, again

The suspect will once again appear in the Benoni Regional Court, on September 29.

The case against a 38-year-old man dubbed the Daveyton/Thembisa serial rapist was again postponed in the Benoni Regional Court on July 28.

The former PRASA security guard is facing 145 charges including 44 counts of rape, 43 charges of kidnapping, 41 of pointing a firearm and 17 additional charges, including fraud, obstruction of justice, forcing someone to witness a sexual act, contravention of the Police Act and Contravention of the Firearms Control Act.

The court was briefly adjourned at 10:00 after the judicial precinct’s generator failed to start during load-shedding.

Proceedings got underway 47 minutes later, when power was restored.

Following a brief appearance the case against the accused was postponed to September 29, waiting on instructions from the director of Public Prosecutions.
