Fuel tanker caught in crossfire following shoot-out

No injuries were reported.

A BP fuel truck was caught in the crossfire when a group of men opened fire at EMPD officers at around 11:30 on July 17 at the Snake Road offramp on the N12 East.

According to EMPD media liaison officer Lerato Monyane, officers noticed a green Nissan Almera with four male occupants, one of whom in the backseat had his head down.

“The officers followed the vehicle to the Snake Road offramp and turned their blue lights on to indicate the vehicle should stop vehicle.

Seen here is the vehicle that was driven by EMPD officers.

“As they approached the vehicle, the occupants opened fire on the officers,” said Monyane.

A petrol tanker was struck in the shootout, leading to the fuel spill.

No injuries were reported. The suspects made a getaway in their car.

The road remained closed while being cleared and motorists had to use alternative routes.
