Flying squad recovers stolen vehicle at mall

Flying squad arrests eight during routine operations.

Two men, aged 35 and 39, were arrested at Lakeside Mall after they were found in possession of a stolen vehicle on July 12.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, spokesperson for the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS), officers followed up on information that a suspected stolen silver BMW Z4 was seen entering the mall’s parking area.

“Officers responded and positively identified the vehicle as one reported stolen in Johannesburg Central, in February,” said Giblin.

“The two occupants were immediately arrested.”

As part of their routine operations, BFS officers with the assistance of members of the Boksburg North CPF, arrested two suspects in possession of stolen copper cabling.

One of the suspects arrested on Ridge Road, Bartlett, after he and his accomplice were found in possession of stolen copper cable.

“On July 13 at 09:45, officers received a call from CPF members regarding a white truck parked in Ridge Road, Bartlett, with a substantial load of copper cabling on the back, as well as lengths of cable lying next to it,” he said.

“Upon investigation, two men were found to be in possession of a total of 460m of cable weighing 820kg.

“Telkom technicians on scene confirmed that the stolen property belonged to Telkom. The suspects were arrested and the cable and truck confiscated.”

Further arrests included four people on charges of being in possession of drugs.

The suspects were arrested in Ivory Park Extension 2, Windmill Park squatter camp and Kaalfontein Extension 23.

Heroin, Mandrax and meth were confiscated.
