VOX: Why are you passionate about nursing? In celebration of International Nurses Day, on May 12, local nurses share their views. Sister Gumbo Makhuvha: It gives me great joy to be there for my patients and ensure they get the best medical care possible. Sister Maki Motsieloa: I have been working as a nurse for 25 years and I believe that I am good at my job. Everything I do, I do with love, care and respect. Sister Elize Buitendag: With over 25 years’ experience, I strive to teach young nurses the core values of our profession – to provide patient-centred care based on compassion and love. Sister Conny Dladla: We play a vital role in giving patients hope and putting them at ease when they are in our care. I love taking care of my Benoni family and nursing them to good health. Mister Sanele Lowe: I have a natural love for looking after people as well as their well-being. Being a male nurse puts my male patients at ease knowing that I will respect and protect their dignity.
