Residents tied up during armed robbery in Brentwood Park

Benoni Police have recorded in increase in house robberies.

Three suspects, two of whom were armed, tied up two residents of a home in Kirschner Road, Brentwood Park, and ransacked their home in the early hours of May 10.

According to Captain Nomsa Sekele, spokesperson for the Benoni Police Station, the men gained entry to the Benoni North AH home through a sliding door at 01:30.

“They tied a woman and her son-in-law up and continued ransacking the house, taking laptops, cellphones and a WiFi router,” she said.

“In the process, they came across a safe and demanded that it be opened. Inside they found a firearm, belonging to the victim’s daughter.”

No one was injured during the incident and the assailants were seen fleeing the scene on foot.

Sekele confirmed that the station has received an increased amount of house robberies of this nature in recent weeks.

“It appears that criminals are taking advantage of load-shedding in order to commit crime,” she said.

“We urge residents to consider beefing up their home security.”
