Law enforcers continue to crack the whip

The suspects are in police custody, pending their appearance in various magistrate’s courts.

Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) as well as units of the Gauteng Rapid Response Services (RRS) arrested 161 suspects for various crimes from April 14 to 23.

Possession of drugs
• On April 17, BFS members found four large bags containing 20kg of dagga transported in a black Ford Territory.

“The members were patrolling the R555 towards Etwatwa when they noticed the suspicious vehicle,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.

“A chase ensued when all attempts to bring the vehicle to the stop failed.”

The suspect abandoned the vehicle near the railway houses at Emaphupheni Section, eluding his arrest.

• The members arrested six people in Brakpan, Kaalfontein and Daveyton, also from April 18 to 23, recovering heroin, dagga, meth and Mandrax.

Impersonating a police officer
They arrested a man on High Road after they found him in possession of a police badge.

Investigations are underway to establish the origin of the badge and its acquisition.

Assault
BFS members traced four men, wanted in connection with an assault, to Gaba Street, Mandela Park on April 20.

Vehicle recovery
On April 22, just after 07:30, BFS members assisted members of a vehicle tracking company with the recovery of a white Renault Kwid at a home in Kerk Street, Kempton Park. The suspects hijacked the vehicle in Lyttleton. The members arrested two suspects.

Abandoned vehicles
Through further policing, BFS members recovered five hijacked and stolen vehicles.
• They found a white Ford Ranger on Daveyton Road, Cloverdene. It was hijacked in Witbank.

• A silver BMW 3-series, hijacked in Jeppe, was found in Midrand.

• They found a white Nissan NP200 on Tom Jones Road after reported as stolen in the same area.

• A white Nissan NP300, reported as stolen in Actonville, was recovered from Plastic City, Brakpan.

• A white BMW 3-series was found in Dongasela Street, Etwatwa. It was reported as stolen in Tsakane.

RRS successes
Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 150 suspects and recovered 55 motor vehicles and five firearms.

Members conducting various operations throughout the province, made 56 arrests on charges of assault to cause grievous bodily harm, attempted murder, possession of suspected stolen goods, driving under the influence of alcohol, shoplifting, domestic violence, house burglary, being in the country illegally, pointing of a firearm at someone, theft, rape, contempt of court, dealing in illicit cigarettes, warrant of arrest, crimen injuria and malicious property damage.

The officers further recovered 55 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles, resulting in 14 accompanying arrests, as well as five unlicensed firearms with three arrests for possessing them.

RRS members arrested 77 persons on charges of being in possession and dealing drugs. They seized several types of drugs – heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal meth.
