Protea launches free theatre academy

Classes are open to everyone with a love for the stage, wanting to expand on their skills.

Protea Stage Productions have for years entertained local audiences with witty stage adaptations of some of our best-loved stories, such as Mary Poppins.

This year, the community theatre company will not be hosting a full-scale production because of the inability to secure a venue.

The committee has decided to expand on its repertoire and will launch the Protea Stage Productions Theatre Academy on May 13.

The free musical theatre classes are available to all ages and will teach all aspects and styles of acting, singing, dancing, stage etiquette, vocabulary, script writing, stage management, sound, lighting and loads more.

Collaborating with Keyboard Magic, participants can attain international certification in musical theatre.

Lynsay Jonker, the vice-chairperson of the movement, explained that graded examinations through Rockschool, the international Rock Music Exam Board, will assist budding actors to achieve certifications, which are beneficial in following a career on stage and in film.

Classes kick off from 09:00 to 11:00 weekly, with the venue still to be confirmed.

For more information, contact Jonker on 062 588 52840 or sign up on their website at www.proteastage.org.za.
