Legendary lawyer Rolf Wesemann passes away

Rolf is survived by his two daughters Rene’ & Elske, his fiancé of long standing Shirley Roelofsz, and his three grandchildren.

Well-known attorney and resident of Benoni since 1967, Rolf Wesemann passed away peacefully on April 18, aged 83.

Fondly known as the Gentle Giant, Rolf attained his law degree at Stellenbosch University and later added conveyancing and notary public to his already impressive list of credentials.

He moved with his wife and three children from Cape Town to Rynfield when he was 27 years old to take a position as a prosecutor in Johannesburg.

His successful achievements as a prosecutor impressed a local attorney and was invited to become a partner with Issy Kramer, which led to the formation Kramer & Wesemann Attorneys, one of the most successful and trusted legal firms in Benoni for many years.

Rolf was highly regarded in the legal fraternity for his ethical conduct, compassion for his fellow man and passion for the law.

Rolf Wesemann.

He was at his happiest being a lawyer, even after leaving Benoni for a small town called Haenertsburg ostensibly to “retire”, he continued practicing law until his passing.

Clients, friends and family will remember Rolf fondly going to his office in the early hours of the morning, leaving late at night and working weekends.

In his earlier days, he played provincial rugby, was an avid body builder and fitness buff. He also played golf and his love of flying airplanes was legendary.

He was a softly spoken gentleman, a legendary lawyer, loved by friends and family alike and an inspiration and mentor to many.

A memorial service to honour his life will be held on Tuesday, April 25, at 11:00, Village Hall, Rissik Street in Haenertsburg.

His family appreciates that distance may prevent Rolf’s colleagues and friends from attending this service but all are welcome to pay their respects.

Rolf is survived by his two daughters, René and Elske, his fiancé of long standing Shirley Roelofsz, and his three grandchildren.
