Construction of N12 Daveyton interchange nears completion

The construction is aimed at improving the movement of persons and goods around Daveyton and Etwatwa and alleviating traffic congestion, especially during peak hours.

The City of Ekurhuleni has announced that the first three phases of the N12 Daveyton interchange have been completed.

“The construction on the N12 Daveyton interchange has reached a significant milestone with the completion of the first three phases and both motorists and residents are experiencing a big difference when it comes to ease of movement,” said municipal spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

According to Dlamini, the construction is aimed at improving the movement of persons and goods around Daveyton and Etwatwa and alleviating traffic congestion, especially during peak hours.

He added the project is being undertaken in four phases.

The last phase of the project will be completed before the end of the current financial year, according to the municipality.

“Phase one was the construction of Heald Street, Maroleng and Link roads, while phase two was the widening of the N12 auxiliary lanes on the western and eastern sides between the Daveyton and the existing Kingsway interchanges. This also included a portion of the stormwater systems.

“The third phase was the construction of the Daveyton interchange off-ramp and the installation of guardrails.

“The project is on phase four, which is the reconstruction and widening of a portion of Alliance Road which will also include the construction of a new bridge, an on-ramp, walkways along Alliance Road and stormwater systems.”

Dlamini stated phase four will be completed before the end of the financial year.

“To date, the project has cost R92.5m and created 76 direct jobs for the locals.

“The City of Ekurhuleni wishes to thank motorists and residents in the area for their patience during the construction phase. We hope that motorists and residents will forever observe and respect the rules of the road.”
