Ramadan soup kitchen serves community

The soup, bread and fruit were handed out to the community of Leachville each Saturday of the four weeks of Ramadan.

The Musjid-E-Salaam Mosque in Leachville, in operation for 27 years, has been cooking haleem (soup) for worshippers and foreign Muslims during Ramadan for over 25 years.

This year they have extended this soup kitchen to the community of Leachville.

Imam Moulana Ishmail Sanudi and his deputy, Imaam Sheikh Hamdaan, went door-to-door to invite people personally to collect haleem. They also handed out over 300 flyers.

A team of two cooks and 10 helpers start cooking the haleem at 17:00 on Friday until 22:00 and then resume cooking at 06:00 until serving time at 13:15. Shabeer Amod Bobat and Abdul Hamid Sirkhot are the head cooks, and have been cooking for over 25 years.

Chicken and mutton haleem were distributed to the community of Leachville on the four weekends of Ramadan.

They served over 400 people with soup, as well as bread, dates and fruit parcels.

The month will end in the celebration of Eid ul Fitr this weekend, a day of feasting and rejoicing after the month-long fast of Ramadan, which Muslims worldwide celebrate.

Sanudi, Hamdaan, the members of Imst soup kitchen, director and chairperson Rasheed Shaik, member and secretary Shabeer Bobat, director, treasurer and PRO Razak Khan and member Hamid Sirkhot thanked the donors and sponsors for the generous donations, as well as the public for their loyal support.
