Rapid Response units crack the whip on serious crime

Investigation continues in all cases.

Members of the Gauteng Rapid Response Services (RSS), including the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS), arrested 108 suspects between April 7 and 13.

During the blitz, K9 units and members of the Highway Patrol further recovered 42 vehicles and 10 firearms.

“Members participated in various concentrated operations throughout the province, which led to 40 arrests for serious crimes, including assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, attempted murder, robbery, possession of stolen goods, driving under the influence, fraud, shoplifting and malicious property damage,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.

“Members recovered 42 hijacked and stolen vehicles accompanied by 18 arrests on charges of being in possession of these vehicles.”

Further investigations led to the recovery of 10 unlicensed firearms and eight arrests.

Giblin said that 42 suspects were also arrested on charges of possession of drugs.

Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth were confiscated in these cases.
