Man shoots wife then himself

At the scene, police found two cartridges and a handgun not far from the bodies.

The Putfontein police are investigating a case of murder and conducting an inquest after a 43-year-old man recently shot and killed his wife and then turned the gun on himself.

This is after an apparent domestic conflict at the wife’s house in Mayfield Ext 5 at around 23:00.

According to the daughter of the deceased, her stepfather came to her mother’s house and asked to speak to her outside.

Soon afterwards, she heard two gunshots and rushed outside.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Raider Ubisi said the daughter found her mother and stepfather on the ground, bleeding.

“When police arrived at the scene, they found both bodies on the ground with gunshot wounds to the heads. They also found two cartridges and a handgun not far from the bodies,” said Ubisi.

The husband reportedly moved out of the house a few weeks ago after an argument with his wife.

The Putfontein SAPS acting station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Papa Matsie, advised community members to seek professional help when faced with marital challenges.
