As part of the Benoni Flying Squad’s (BFS) continued efforts to stamp out crime, members brought 11 criminals to book in just two days.
During routine operations on April 4 and 5, officers also recovered a stolen vehicle and a motorcycle.
Possession of drugs
At 02:00 on April 4, while patrolling the N12 at the Snake Road off-ramp, members pulled over a white Nissan Almera that was being recklessly driven.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a bag of dagga.
The four occupants were arrested, and the bag, with an estimated street value of R10 000, was confiscated. The vehicle was impounded.
Possession of copper cabling
On the same day at 11:00, members conducting a vehicle checkpoint at the N12 Daveyton off-ramp stopped a white Toyota Quantum.
“Following a search of the vehicle, officers discovered five bags containing suspected stolen copper cables,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the BFS spokesperson.
“The estimated value of the cables is R10 000.”
The four suspects were arrested on the scene.
Theft
Members acting on information from a fellow officer were deployed to Plumbago Business Park, Spier Road, Kempton Park, on April 5 at 18:00.
Upon arrival, the members found an employee trying to steal R2 400 worth of clothing from the premises.
The suspect was arrested.
Arrests
In two separate cases, an illegal immigrant was arrested in Morehill, and a man in possession of heroin was arrested on Tom Jones Road.
Vehicles recovered
An abandoned grey Mercedes Viano was recovered in Ematolweni Street, Ext 23, Rondebult.
It was reported as hijacked in Nigel.
A stolen silver and blue Honda motorcycle was found on Seventh Street, Northmead.
It had been reported as stolen in Booysens.
