The four Paul Harris Fellows received a commemorative certificate and a pin.

Four hardworking Benonians were recently honoured with the highest award in Rotary called the Paul Harris Fellowship.

The Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora hosted the Paul Harris Fellows recognition ceremony at Clearwater Estate in Boksburg.

Acknowledged for their extraordinary service to the community, the recipients consisted of two Rotarians and two members of the community.

The honorary members included Samantha Choles, Claudine Stuart, Yolande and Brian Moseley.

Lindy van Moerkerken, the club president, presented a hugely respected certificate and pin to the new Paul Harris Fellows who joins the society, known as the Paul Harris Fellowship Society.

Samantha Chole of Litter Bugs receives a commemorative pin from the president of Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora, Lindy van Moerkerken.

Such recognition entails that the club makes a donation of $1 000 (approximately R13 500) in the new fellow’s name to the Rotary Foundation to use in humanitarian programmes and other Rotary-approved projects worldwide.

During the ceremony, four Rotarians each did a presentation about why the four nominees were chosen.

Presenting the first award, Rachel Ulyate hailed Choles as a force to be reckoned with in her workplace in the battle for a sustainable future.

Choles and Anne Mcleman started the Litter Bugs clean-up initiative in 2015 after they spent their 67 Minutes for Mandela Day picking up litter in their neighbourhood.

“She worked tirelessly to make a positive difference in the world and to inspire others to do the same through her clean-ups. Litter Bugs has reached out to local churches, schools, organisations and businesses encouraging the public to get involved in their mission of cleaning up the environment,” said Ulyate.

The second nominee, Stuart, is the face behind the Mr and Miss Benoni. She and her best friend, Debbie, who owns Rampage Modelling Agency, have for the past 28 years been involved in organising the pageant to help young people gain confidence as well as raise funds and assist those in need.

Standing next to Claudine Stuart (Paul Harris Fellowship Award recipient) is Daniela David and Lindy van Moerkerken (club president).

Yolande Moseley was recognised for her extensive work and unwavering commitment to the club.

They hailed her as someone who not only actively participates in club meetings but also opens her home to the club for special functions. Yolande’s passion for helping people and serving the community has affected helping Rotary Interact students to understand the importance of empathy and assisting those in need.

Brian Moseley, who joined Rotary in 2010, was honoured for always being hands-on deck, supporting the blood drive and the wheelchair project. He has also assisted in the running of the club’s interact clubs and organising transport for the youth attending the Ryla Camps.
