Seniors get cupcakes

Children of Colin House at Greater Benoni Child Welfare warmed the hearts of the elderly at Old People’s Home

The children of Colin House at Greater Benoni Child Welfare put smiles on the faces of the elderly at Old People’s Home on Valentine’s Day, February 14.

They surprised the elderly with delicious cupcakes from the local bakery, Cake Extreme.

Their love language warmed the hearts of everyone as they satisfied their sweet tooth.

Giving one of the beneficiary of Colin House a big hug is Old People’s Home resident Myrtle Eloff (80).

The cupcakes were part of the welfare’s Cupcakes for a Cause project for Valentine’s Day. The public was invited to put their orders in to raise funds for Colin House.

According to Vanessa Carelse, the director of the Greater Benoni Child Welfare, they wanted to share the love by donating some cupcakes to older people, who are also a vulnerable group.

“We also wanted to teach the children the importance of giving back to the community,” said Carelse.

This year, the society sold 1 596 cupcakes, an increase from last year’s 1 119.

Cupcakes handed out to the elderly people of Old People’s Home on Valentine’s Day.

Carelse added the initiative wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the local bakery.

“We thank Paul Vieira of Cake Extreme. He was instrumental in providing us with the donation of cakes and baking the cupcakes for us.

“We also thank the community members and the corporate companies that placed orders,” said Carelse.
