WATCH: Sgela 1st continues to donate much-needed appliances

Daveyton’s top matric achievers are armed with appliances and pots for the journey ahead.

Three young professionals from an organisation called Sgela 1st have fulfilled their mission to honour Daveyton’s cream of the crop.

They donated a new kettle, iron and pots to each of the matric achievers from Daveyton during an event at Hulwazi Secondary School on January 28.

There was a poor turnout by beneficiaries, but the ceremony proceeded with only six learners and their parents attending.

The beneficiaries were chosen from 10 high schools – Mabuya Secondary School, Unity Secondary School, Hulwazi Secondary School, Dinoto Tech, East Rand School of the Arts, Petit High School, Rivonia Secondary School, Lesiba Secondary School, Nyathi Secondary School and Davey Secondary School.

Sgela 1st co-founder, advocate Tsatseng Rantsho, with co-founders Nhlakanipho Sindane and Sibusiso Hlongwane have dug deep into their pockets over the past few years to buy essential appliances for matric achievers to assist them at university.

Rantsho, who holds an LLB from the University of Johannesburg, said the pots and iron would be handy for the matric achievers at a university residence.

A businessman and public relations graduate, Sindane said the donation was their way of giving back to the community and a token of their appreciation to the learners for their outstanding performances.

Co-founder of Sgela 1st, Nhlakanipho Sindane, praised the top matric achievers for their outstanding results.

Expressing gratitude for the donation, Lebogang Masemola, who attained five distinctions from the East Rand School of the Arts, said it meant a lot to her to receive the donation.

Sgela 1st has been in operation for a few years and focuses on motivational speaking and youth development that encourages learners to prioritise school.
