EMPD confiscates expired goods in Cloverdene

The confiscated goods were worth almost R50 000.

EMPD officers, in collaboration with environmental health officials from the Ekurhuleni metro, confiscated R50 000 worth of expired meat, vegetables and other goods from businesses in Cloverdene.

As part of their mission to inspect and attend to those who contravene municipal by-laws, the team visited a butcher on Cloverdene Road and found that 90% of the stock, particularly poultry and other perishables, was outdated.

According to EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, the food was unfit for human consumption.

“Another business owner was issued a hefty fine after admitting she buys second-hand perishables at a low price from a well-known retail store in the area for resale,” Thepa said.
The expired goods were confiscated and disposed of at the Cloverdene dumpsite.
