Help robotics team fund trips to USA and Australia

The team needs approximately R500 000 to cover flight, accommodation and registration costs for these trips.

The SB Decryptors robotics team from Willowmoore High School is appealing for financial assistance to travel to the VEX Robotics World Championship in the USA in April and the First Lego League Challenge in Australia in June.

The team needs approximately R500 000 to cover flight, accommodation and registration costs for these trips.

The robot SB DECRYPTORS created for the Full Lego League competition.

“We are a team of eight members and two mentors. We would like all of us to represent the country and our school. Our learners are mainly from families that don’t have the money to afford travelling internationally and our school can’t sponsor us as their budget is also limited,” said mentor Sagree Moodley.

SB Decryptors were invited to the world championship by the Robotics Education and Competition (REC) Foundation after finishing third at the Pan African Robotics Competition in Senegal last year.

The Willowmoore High School’s SB DECRYPTORS Muhammed Yusuf Ally, Abdullah Suliman, Terry Gumbi, Luke Chetty (captain), Kellina Mariquele, Zainaaz Hansa (mentor), Beyonce Magagula and Sharon Sithole. Absent: Millan Munowarindzwa, Dinal Nagar and John Tshibambe.

The team then obtained a second place finish at the National Lego League Challenge, which qualified them for the competition Down Under.

“Corporate sponsors would be appreciated. We would be more than happy to reciprocate by wearing or displaying their logos to promote them at both competitions,” pleaded Moodley.
