Concentrated operations lead to the arrest of 180 suspects

The week long operation was directed at closing the net on criminals

Rapid Response Services comprising of members of the Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol, across Gauteng, arrested 180 suspects, recovered 50 motor vehicles and 11 firearms.

According to Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) spokesperson, Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle check points, secure escorts and intensive patrols throughout the province, from 13 to 19 January.

The operation led to the arrest of 92 suspects on charges including murder, assault GBH, rape, shoplifting, theft, possession of stolen property, tampering with essential infrastructure, robbery, house breaking, domestic violence and hijacking.

“Officers further recovered 50 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles and a further seven arrests were made on charges of being in possession of the stolen vehicles,” he said.

“Eight suspects were also arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms.”

He continued by saying that 73 people were arrested on charges of being in possession of drugs.

Heroin, dagga, Mandrax, crystal methamphetamine and cocaine were seized.
