The Truth and Grace Church from Crystal Park invites all women to the inaugural O Woman Rise Up conference on February 18 at Crystal Park Primary School.

According to organiser Abby Letsoalo, the event will discuss issues affecting women.

Letsoalo explained that their motivation for the event was due to women being the most affected by the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The loss of loved ones is still mourned, while the retrenchments of breadwinners, children moving from private to public schools and dropping out of university due to funding lingers.

“All of the above and more have led to increasing stress levels within our homes, leading to domestic abuse and children finding solace in drugs,” he said.

He stated that because of the socio-economic issues caused by the pandemic, women had to step in to keep families together and this has affected their mental health.

“In the midst of all of these, the woman – whether by default or not – finds herself in the centre of this crisis and ends up carrying this burden.”

Letsoalo said the attendees would discuss these issues to find sustainable solutions to deal with them.

“We’ve also invited counsellors to help us as we pen a roadmap to help women in our communities on how better to deal with these issues. It is a free event, but with limited seating, those who wish to attend would have to book,” said Letsoalo.
