Note council departments close soon

Essential services departments will remain operational.

Ekurhuleni metro departments close at 13:00 on December 23, with the exception of essential services (energy, water, sanitation, emergency services and EMPD).

Residents are urged to ensure their accounts are up to date before this time as no finance issues can be attended to until the offices reopen on January 3.

According to ward councillors, while the council is in recess and they are not attending council meetings at this time, they are still working but can only assist residents in their wards with essential services problems in the time the council offices are closed.

Furthermore, residents are encouraged to keep an eye on their local service delivery groups for updates from councillors.

Metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini has stated the ongoing inclement weather may affect service delivery turnaround time.

“The city would like to warn ratepayers that turnaround times to service delivery interruptions have recently been negatively impacted by the ongoing inclement weather,” he said.

“We appeal to residents to be patient with us as, in harsh weather, it is unsafe and impractical for personnel to work during service interruptions. The metro does, however, remain committed to sticking to standard turnaround times.

“Residents are further reminded that even though council offices will be closed for the festive holidays, essential services teams remain at work.

“Any service delivery issues should be reported to the city’s call centre on 0860 543 000.”
