Cake decorators impress at charity handover

The City Times was also the lucky recipient of a beautiful cake.

Members of the Benoni Cake Decorators Network again pulled out all the stops to help charities by baking extraordinary Christmas cakes for them to enjoy or raffle to raise funds.

The handover to seven charities took place at the Benoni Baptist Church, in Wordsworth Road, Farrarmere, on November 23.

These are the organisations that benefited and the network members behind the masterpiece handed to them:

* Life Choices: Salma Essop.

* Benoni SPCA: Lorinda Pretorius.

* Avril Elizabeth Home: Elsie Tewitz.

* Kids Haven: Gerda Nortje.

* Meals on Wheels: Olga Bork.

* The Animal Guardians: Champa Magan.

* Society for Animals in Distress: Debra-Lee Horn.

Chairperson of the Cake Decorators Network, Tania Riley, baked a cake she handed over to Benoni Baptist Church to thank them for the use of their facilities for their meetings throughout the year, and the year-end charity handover.

The Benoni City Times was also the lucky recipient of a beautiful cake made by Anna O’Neill.

About Benoni Cake Decorators Network

The network is a group of volunteers with an organising committee.

Their sole mission is to build people skills within the fields of cake decorating and allied fields of interest.

“Membership has dropped dramatically since the Covid-19 lockdown, but we are confident interest will pick up and we can return to the big membership enjoyed prior to the pandemic,” said Tania.

The group meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month (beginning in February) at 18:30, at the Benoni Baptist Church.

The annual membership is R350 and it is R30 for each monthly meeting that you attend.

Meetings are comprised of either a hands-on training session or a demonstration, and the network also often invites top experts in the baking field to attend.

For more information or to join contact Tania on 082 931 6200.
