Licensing department to close early tomorrow for memorial service

The deceased, Cindy Ralutanda, was a senior manager.

A memorial service will be held tomorrow (October 13) for the Benoni Licensing Department employee who died at work on October 10.

The centre will close at 12:00 for the memorial service.

The EMPD said it is saddened following the death of the employee, Cindy Ralutanda, a senior manager with 17 years service.

According to EMPD spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa, Ralutanda was dedicated to excellence and leadership in the department.

“Her passion, dedication, and rare character will fervently be missed. The municipal commissioner, Isaac Mapiyeye, conveyed his sincere condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues,” said Thepa.

The divisional head of the licensing division, Hamilton Ledwaba, said: “Losing a colleague is never easy, what more in plain sight. I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to the family and staff across the licensing centres, especially to the staff of the licensing centre.”

Meanwhile, the centre remained closed on October 12 as employee assistance programmes commenced with counselling all those affected by the death of the senior manager.

The City Times reported that Ralutanda died after falling on a staircase while descending from the second floor.

A member of the public, who was in a queue on the first floor of the Benoni Licensing Department that morning, told the City Times that he heard a commotion after the woman fell on the stairs while making her way down from the second floor.

“Everything happened so fast. When people started screaming the security guards told us to leave and then closed the main entrance doors,” said the eyewitness.

The EMPD apologises for the disruption in services and requests that the public utilises neighbouring licensing centres.
