Flying squad makes four arrests

Suspects aged between 18 and 45 were arrested

Routine patrols by members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS), from September 26 to 28, have led to the arrest of four suspects as well as the recovery of an unlicensed firearm.

Possession of drugs
A suspect, traveling in a white Toyota Venture, was arrested at the N12 Daveyton off-ramp on September 26 on charges of being in possession of drugs.

Members were conducting routine vehicle inspections when they found 10 rocks (cocaine).

Possession of stolen copper
On September 27, members received information of a white Toyota Quantum traveling on the N12, towards Johannesburg transporting suspected stolen copper.

“The vehicle was located and stopped near the Kingsway off-ramp,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, spokesperson for the unit.

“Three bags containing 10kg of copper were found. The driver and two occupants were arrested on the scene.”

Unlicensed firearm recovered
On September 28, Sergeant Jaco Powell and Constable Juan-Mare Eksteen were assisting a vehicle tracking company to search for a motorcycle in an open veld near the M51, Olifantsfontein.

Although they were unable to locate the motorcycle, officers recovered a 9mm CZ pistol hidden under a nearby rock.

“It is suspected that the firearm was hidden shortly before the arrival of the police,” said Giblin.
“The serial number was traced and it was found that it had been reported as stolen in Kempton Park in 2019.”

Investigations into the matter are continuing.

Abandoned vehicles recovered
Two Nissan NP300s were recovered in Northmead.

The vehicles were reported as hijacked and stolen in separate incidents.
