FOLLOW-UP: Benoni SAPS’ mobile unit is on the roll

The unit aims to link communities that are far removed from the police station

The Benoni Police Station’s mobile unit has been deployed and is operational.

This comes months after the unit was handed over to the police station by Gauteng Province’s MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko.

According to Captain Nomsa Sekele, spokesperson for the police station, the deployment of the unit was delayed as it still needed to be registered to the station and had to undergo complete licensing.

“The unit will be open to the public daily from 08:00 to 16:00 and will be deployed to areas that are further removed from the police station,” said Sekele.

“The vehicle will rotate among focus areas but will be moved to areas recording increases based on crime statistics.”

Focus areas include:
• Kingsway and Lindelani next to taxi rank

• Alliance and Marikana at the playground

• Brentwood Park at Van Wyk Road next to the church

• Msholozi informal settlement next to taxi rank

The following services are rendered at the mobile unit:
• Certification of documents

• Affidavits

• Opening of docket, however, registration thereof as well as case numbers will only be available once it has been captured at the police station.

• Lodging of complaints which will lead to sector vehicles being dispatched.

• Accidents reporting

Members of the public may contact the officers on duty at the mobile unit on 083 529 8932.
