Flying Squad arrests six

The suspects were arrested and their vehicles were impounded

Six suspects have been arrested, thanks to the quick response of members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS).

On September 6, at 12:30, Sergeant Jaco Powell and Constable Juan-Mare Eksteen received information about a white Ford Bantam used in a business robbery in Tembisa.

“While responding to the call, the officers passed a vehicle matching the description of the business owner and attempted to pull it over. The bakkie did not stop and a chase ensued,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.

“The vehicle with four suspects was brought to a stop on Freedom Drive, Ivory Park, and the occupants were contained.”

A thorough search led to the recovery of a 9mm Norinco pistol with the serial number filed off, four live rounds of ammunition, cigarettes, an airtime machine and cellphones to the estimated value of R10 000 as well as an undisclosed amount of cash taken during the robbery.

“The suspects were arrested and the evidence booked in at Ivory Park SAPS,” he said.

Work conducted by alert members yielded further results later in the day when two men, driving a white Hyundai H100, were arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen vehicle parts.

“While patrolling Kingsway Road near Daveyton at 20:30, officers noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle and conducted a routine stop and search,” said Giblin.

“It was found that the vehicle contained various vehicle parts, including a Toyota Hilux engine.

Further investigations indicated that the engine belonged to a courier company in the Benoni agricultural holdings.”
