BFS recovers three stolen vehicles

All three vehicles had falsified registration numbers

Weekend operations conducted by members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) from August 4 to 7 led to the recovery of three stolen vehicles and the arrest of five suspects.

On Friday at 10:45 a vehicle check-point was setup that the Kingway off-ramp at the N12 highway.

“A silver Volkswagen Polo with foreign number plates was stopped and upon validating the vehicle’s VIN number it was found that it had been reported as stolen in Pinetown in 2017,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, spokesperson for the unit.

“The 47-year-old driver was arrested and the vehicle was impounded.”

Following-up on information for a tracking company, members were dispatched to home in Zenzele Ext 6, Putfontein.

“A suspect was arrested for being in possession of a silver Mercedes Benz that was reported as hijacked in Sundra,” said Giblin.

“While on scene, officers found an abandoned, orange Ford Ranger that was reported as stolen, in Rustenburg case in 2021.

“The bakkie was allegedly fitted with false registration plates as well as a fake license disc.”

During an unrelated investigations three suspects were arrested in Brakpan and Etwatwa for being in possession of drugs.

“The suspects will appear in court soon,” he said.
