Hijacked car found at mall in Northmead, driver arrested

Initial reports indicate the car may be linked to cash heists.

A hijacked silver Mercedes Benz was recovered at Northmead Square and the driver of the car arrested shortly after 10:00 this morning (September 13).

According to NoJack Vehicle Tracking’s Anton Koen, the vehicle was reported as hijacked and initial reports indicated that it may be linked to cash-in-transit heists.

The scene was handed over to the police.

“At this stage, it is too soon to speculate about the driver or the vehicle’s involvement in cash-in-transit heists, however, investigations into the matter will be conducted,” said Captain Nomsa Sekele, spokesperson for the Benoni SAPS.
