SA sprint triathlon champs coming to Benoni

This will be the first triathlon nationals hosted in Benoni in over two decades.

CR Swart Dam is gearing up to host the SA sprint triathlon championships, incorporated into the Alley Roads Tri Fest, on March 16, which will be the first triathlon nationals hosted in Benoni in over two decades.

This follows the success of the SEESA Jozi Triathlon hosted at the venue, which is one of the best inland venues in the country, last year and in 2023.

The event, sponsored by Alley Roads and Ebotse Golf and Country Estate, will see the best triathletes from the ages of 12 to over 70 from around the country swim, cycle and run for national titles.

The SA sprint triathlon champs take place on March 16 at CR Swart Dam.

Athletes from Zimbabwe and Mozambique will also be joining the rest of South Africa’s best at the Alley Road Tri Fest, which incorporates the national sprint champs.

Racing starts at 06:30 with some of the fun racers participating before the fast and serious racing gets underway at 09:00.

The SA elite and top juniors will start their events at 09:00 with another three separate events to follow after that.
Prize-giving is set for 12:30.

“The last time a national triathlon championship was held in Benoni was possibly in the early 2000s or 90s. It was so long ago. I am stoked to be able to bring back a triathlon of this nature to the East Rand and we are super excited to deliver a race of the highest calibre.

Gore added that they need to host a successful event so that it returns to Benoni next year.

“We need to impress so that this event comes back in 2026. We are under pressure to deliver a world-class event, but with great sponsors (Alley Roads and Ebotse Golf and Country Estate) and a crew team that are motivated to be the best, I am sure we can pull it off.

“We hope that the locals will come down and watch and see what the sport of triathlon is all about at the very top level,” said Gore.
