Jumping for joy are Hulwazi Secondary School matriculants from the Class of 2024.
Dubbed the Covid-babies, the Class of 2024 started their high school career under a cloud of uncertainty, with many relying on remote studies and tutoring.
Isolated, many battled through the emotions, feeling that their formative teenage years were stunted.
These setbacks did, however, not cast a shadow over their grit and determination.
Announcing the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) results on January 13, Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube applauded the matriculants saying that the 2024 pass rate of 87.3% is the highest in the country’s history.
This is an increase from 2023’s 82.9%.
“It is a moment of great pride and celebration for all of us,” she said.
Following closely behind the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng took third place with a pass rate of 88.4%, which is an increase of 3%.
Closer to home, local schools commended their learners on their achievements.
The Benoni City Times met the class of 2024 as they flooded through the gates to collect their results, yesterday (January 14).
