WATCH: IEB matriculants chuffed with results

Their hard work and dedication has finally paid off.

Time seemed to stand still as Independent Examinations Board (IEB) learners gathered outside their schools yesterday (January 13) anxiously waiting for the 2024 matric results to be released.

As the clock struck 15:30, phones started beeping and terse conversations turned to jubilation as learners received their digital results.

Waiting in anticipation, the Benoni City Times team got their cameras rolling, capturing the excitement as the Class of 2024 at Ashton International College, Pinnacle College Rynfield and St Dunstan’s College celebrated the successful end of their schooling careers.

In a press release, the IEB confirmed that it achieved an overall pass rate of 98.47%, the highest pass rate recorded since 2019.

“All candidates who successfully completed the 2024 IEB NSC examinations obtained passes that qualify them for tertiary study at one of three levels,” the press release read. A total of 89.37% of the cohort achieved entry to degree studies, compared to 88.59% in 2023.”

Pinnacle College Rynfield
Watching the clock, principal Clint Gaffney could hardly wait to unveil the banner, announcing that the school’s 63 matric learners achieved a 100% pass rate as well as a whopping 94% bachelor’s pass rate.

“It is heartening to see that so many parents have been able to celebrate this momentous achievement with their children,” he said.

St Dunstan’s College
St Dunstan’s College has once again demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence by achieving a 100% matric pass rate, a tradition the school has maintained since its establishment 29 years ago.

Of the 98 learners who wrote the 2024 IEB examinations, 99% achieved bachelor’s degree exemptions, marking the highest percentage of degree passes to date.

Top achievers Marié Naude, Cian Dadoo, and Kelly Richter earned distinctions in all their subjects. Richter’s average placed her on the IEB’s outstanding achievement list, as she ranked within the top 5% in six or more subjects and achieved a rating of seven in life orientation.

Congratulating their daughter, Isabella Martins who obtained eight distinctions are Yvonne and John Martins of Rynfield.

The school’s rector, Warwick Taylor, expressed pride in St Dunstan’s continued success, attributing it to consistent teaching practices that begin in pre-school and progress with age-appropriate benchmarks and goals.

“The collaboration between teachers, learners, and parents is the cornerstone of our success. This year’s matric group not only excelled academically but also embraced a holistic approach to education. Their involvement in cultural activities significantly contributed to the school spirit,” he said.

Deputy head of academics, Allan Lachenicht, praised the Class of 2024 for their remarkable leadership and ability to inspire one another positively. He highlighted the importance of a stable and dedicated teaching staff, describing it as crucial to the learners’ academic achievements.

Ashton International College
Ashton International College scored a 100% pass rate, with 96% of learners obtaining bachelor’s degree passes in the 2024 IEB matric exams.

The college further scored an 84% average across the top six IEB students.
One learner achieved seven distinctions, one six, three got five and one received four.

The top achiever, Kiara Harkoo, got an outstanding achievement for being within the top 5% of students in five subjects and achieving a rating of seven in life orientation in the national senior certificate (NSC) exams.

She achieved distinctions in Afrikaans, English, life orientation, life sciences, physical science, history and mathematics.

Principal Lynne Felix congratulated the learners, saying they have made the Ashton family proud.

“This year’s results are a testament to all our students’ hard work, perseverance and dedication. A special shout out to our top achievers who are truly an example of the Ashton motto, Excellence belongs to the zealous.

“Thank you to our incredible staff. Your passion and commitment have been instrumental in these successes. To our parents, thank you for the support and encouragement you’ve given along the way,” said Felix.
