Crime in Brief

The operations continue to fight crime.

The Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) and the Gauteng Rapid Response Services (RRS) made these arrests between September 27 and October 6:

Wanted persons
Officers arrested two men, aged 26 and 32, on Prince George Avenue, Brakpan, on October 3. The duo was wanted regarding a robbery in the same area.

Possession of drugs
The law enforcers arrested three men in Brakpan and Kaalfontein Ext 1, Ivory Park, on charges of being in possession of drugs with the intention to sell after finding Mandrax, heroin and meth.

Abandoned vehicle
A silver Toyota Aygo was recovered on the corner of Voortrekker Road and Kemston Avenue, Benoni CBD, which was reported as hijacked in Boksburg.

RRS
Officers arrested 77 suspects across the province during routine operations conducted by BFS members, K9 Units and Highway Patrol.

They made 28 arrests for charges of assault with the intent of causing grievous bodily harm, house robbery, common robbery, contravening the Dangerous Weapons Act, theft, possession of stolen property, possession of house-breaking equipment, possession of unwrought precious metal, house-breaking, malicious damage to property, attempted kidnapping, murder, rape and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Officers found more than 60 hijacked and stolen vehicles, which were accompanied by seven arrests for possession.

Six people were arrested on charges of being in possession of unlicensed firearms, with five weapons recovered.
