Assailants shoot two men outside Voortrekker Street eatery

The motive for the killings is presently unknown.

The Benoni SAPS is investigating the murder of two Pakistani nationals outside a halaal takeaway on Voortrekker Street yesterday (October 7).

According to the station’s spokesperson, Captain Nomsa Sekele, four men had gathered outside the eatery when two unidentified men opened fire just after 18:00.

“It is alleged that an unidentified white hatchback stopped on the intersection of Woburn Avenue, close to the business. The suspects walked up to the victims and opened fire,” she said.

“Two men, aged 40 and 49, were shot and killed, while another sustained a gunshot wound to the lower body. The victim was treated on the scene and transported to a local hospital. The fourth bystander escaped unharmed.”

Eyewitnesses claim the assailants did not interact with the victims before the shooting, so the motive is unknown.

“Two cases of murder and one of attempted murder are under investigation. We appeal to anyone with information to call the SAPS CrimeStop hotline on 08600 10111. They can submit information anonymously, and we will handle it with strict confidentiality,” said Sekele.
