Painting party puts focus on mental health

The event was held Tshepo Themba Hall in Etwatwa on August 23.

The organiser of the Sip and Paint Women’s Month and Mental Health Awareness Day event, Phumzile Malinga, hopes the event conveyed a message of resilience to women in her community.

The event was held Tshepo Themba Hall in Etwatwa on August 23.

“It’s important for women to know they have the strength and capability to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

Ladies, Thembisile Maseko, Sibongile Maben and Nombuso Ndaba had a cheerful moment.

“By focusing on empowerment and the power of a positive mind, the event aimed to inspire women to embrace their potential, support each other and prioritise their mental health,” said Malinga.

“It was also a platform to discuss mental health, reduce stigma and provide a supportive space for women to express themselves through art.

“We wanted our guests to leave with a deeper understanding of mental health issues and empowered to prioritise their mental wellbeing and seek help when needed.”

The participants found the painting process relaxing and fun, with some saying they appreciated the opportunity to explore their creative side in a supportive environment.

“Empowering others is one of my core values, especially in the context of women’s issues. The event aligns with my passion for empowerment and support. It offers a space for women to express themselves, feel supported and gain valuable insights,” Malinga said.
