Thorough investigation leads to conviction

The murder accused was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.

The court sentenced murder accused Phakamani Sizane Dladla (34) to 12 years of direct imprisonment on September 10.

Appearing in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Ian Cox, Dladla was found guilty of murdering Nhlanhla Benjamin Buthelezi (37) at a tavern in Kingsway on September 27, 2021.

“Investigating the matter, Detective Warrant Officer Mduduzi Jinika of the Benoni Police Station’s detective branch found that the accused had gone to the local watering hole to confront the victim,” said Captain Nomsa Sekele, the spokesperson for the police station.

“Dladla accused Buthelezi of having an affair with his partner. Following a heated argument, the victim was stabbed. He was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.”

Dladla fled the scene to evade arrest but handed himself over to police two days after the incident.

“Due to the proficient manner in which Jinika investigated the matter, the accused’s guilt was proven without reasonable doubt, resulting in the conviction,” said Sekele.

“We applaud the detective for his diligence in ensuring justice is served.”
