Karateka makes the grade

"Her grit and determination really deserves a standing ovation," - sensei Raveen.

Sensei Raveen Dayaram of Lotus Karate Club from Parkrand shared his excitement after young karateka Zaniqua Joyce graded to a green belt on September 7.

The green belt is an intermediate level where the student begins to master more complex techniques and understand how they are applied.

Dayaram said Joyce worked hard in her training to keep up with the “very high standards” of the South African Shotokan Karate Academy (SASKA).

“We are extremely proud. Her grit and determination really deserves a standing ovation,” said the sensei.

“Thank you to all my students from the bottom of my heart for all the hard work and effort that they have put into their gradings so far this year. We had one Karateka attend the recent grading. She did extremely well.”
