The first week of September marks National Arbor Week, an initiative created to raise awareness about the significance of trees.
To mark this special awareness, teams from the Green Development Foundation, the City of Ekurhuleni, Gold One and the Airports Company South Africa planted trees at two community parks in Phase Four, Chief Albert Luthuli, recently.
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment donated 100 peach, 100 lemon and 46 shade trees.
The informative event began with a clean-up around the area to remind residents of the importance of keeping their environment clean.
Residents were taught about the value of trees for communities and encouraged to plant native trees as a concrete and symbolic act of sustainable environmental management.
